WPL 2027 auction:
25 signings.
Five squads.

Every updated squad, every new signing and what each player cost. Sophie Molineux topped the bidding in Kochi, while Delhi Capitals landed the biggest Indian buy of the night. Here is where all five franchises stand heading into the 2027 season.

The short answer

The WPL 2027 mini-auction wrapped up in Kochi on 28 October 2026, with the five franchises spending a combined ₹6.25 crore on 25 players (18 Indian and 7 overseas). UP Warriorz made the biggest splash, signing Australian all-rounder Sophie Molineux for ₹1.10 crore, the only bid to cross the one-crore mark. Delhi Capitals paid ₹75 lakh for Kiran Navgire, the most expensive Indian player of the auction, and also picked 15-year-old Uma Kashvi (₹10 lakh), the youngest player ever drafted in the WPL. Gujarat Giants, Mumbai Indians and UP Warriorz reached the 18-player maximum, while Delhi Capitals and Royal Challengers Bengaluru finished with 17 each. Every franchise has six overseas players. A targeted mini-auction, not a rebuild

Franchises kept the core of their rosters through retentions, so Kochi was about surgical upgrades. The five teams walked in with a combined purse of ₹8.15 crore and 27 open slots. By the final hammer they had filled 25 spots and left ₹1.90 crore unspent. The table shows what each franchise spent against its remaining purse and final squad count.

UP Warriorz drove the market, accounting for 41.6% of all money spent and eight of the 25 players sold. At the other end, Mumbai Indians bought six domestic players for ₹70 lakh, ₹5 lakh less than Delhi spent on Kiran Navgire alone. The contrast is clear: UPW needed volume and frontline spin options, while Mumbai needed Indian depth around a settled core.

02 / The bids

Molineux first, Navgire next

If the room felt quiet for long stretches, the numbers explain why. Of 25 players sold, 22 went at their exact base price. Only three sparked bidding above their reserve:

  1. Sophie Molineux (UPW): base ₹50 lakh, sold for ₹1.10 crore
  2. Kiran Navgire (DC): base ₹40 lakh, sold for ₹75 lakh
  3. Shweta Sehrawat (MI): base ₹10 lakh, sold for ₹20 lakh

Behind Molineux and Navgire, Jess Jonassen (RCB) and G. Kamalini (GG) tied for third at ₹40 lakh each. Seven more players tied right behind them at ₹30 lakh.

Delhi go all-in on one target

Delhi Capitals entered with 13 retained players and did not need a makeover. They had one main target and spent 71.4% of their auction budget on her: ₹75 lakh on power-hitter Kiran Navgire. With the remaining ₹30 lakh they picked up three ₹10 lakh base-price players: Scottish left-arm spinner Kirstie Gordon, all-rounder Nazma Khan and 15-year-old Uma Kashvi, the youngest player ever drafted in the WPL. With ₹5 lakh left, Delhi could not afford the ₹10 lakh minimum bid for an 18th spot.

The CricArcade read

Delhi's top order already had Shafali Verma, Jemimah Rodrigues and Laura Wolvaardt, backed by all-rounders Annabel Sutherland and Marizanne Kapp. Navgire gives them a pure six-hitter who can change the tempo of an innings in a few balls, whether as a floater or a finisher.

The biggest overhaul belongs to UP Warriorz

UP Warriorz were the busiest table in Kochi by a wide margin: eight new players for ₹2.60 crore, with ₹1.15 crore still unspent. After winning Sophie Molineux (₹1.10 crore) they added four players at ₹30 lakh each: Australian power-hitter Grace Harris, all-rounder Sneh Rana, wicketkeeper Sushma Verma and leg-spinner Asha Sobhana. They rounded out the 18 with ₹10 lakh deals for Kathryn Bryce, Manali Dakshini and Sahana Pawar.

The CricArcade read

Look at the spin options UPW now have. Molineux, Rana and Sobhana join a dressing room that already features Deepti Sharma and Sophie Ecclestone, arguably the most versatile spin group in the league on paper. Harris brings middle-order power, while Sushma Verma adds experienced glovework alongside Shipra Giri. Tara Norris is no longer with UPW: she was traded to Mumbai Indians on 12 October.

Four smart additions, almost no money left

Like Delhi, RCB squeezed their purse, spending ₹1.10 crore on four signings and stopping at 17 players with ₹5 lakh left. Jess Jonassen cost ₹40 lakh, Chloe Tryon and Tejal Hasabnis ₹30 lakh each, and Vrinda Dinesh ₹10 lakh: Australian left-arm spin all-rounder Jess Jonassen, South African all-rounder Chloe Tryon, Indian middle-order batter Tejal Hasabnis and batter Vrinda Dinesh.

The CricArcade read

With Smriti Mandhana, Richa Ghosh, Ellyse Perry and Pooja Vastrakar already in the squad, RCB went after specific gaps. Jonassen and Tryon are experienced overseas all-rounders who can bowl tough overs and hit big, while Hasabnis and Dinesh add Indian batting options. Six overseas players are competing for the XI places, so RCB have room to adjust to pitch conditions.

Three vacancies, three no-fuss signings

Gujarat Giants had the simplest job of the night. With 15 players retained, they needed three signings to reach 18, and got all three at base price without a bidding war: young Indian batter G. Kamalini (₹40 lakh), Irish all-rounder Orla Prendergast (₹30 lakh) and all-rounder Samaira Raghav (₹10 lakh). They still had ₹45 lakh left when the squad was full.

The CricArcade read

Spending ₹80 lakh does not mean a quiet squad build. It means the heavy lifting was done before auction day. Ashleigh Gardner, Beth Mooney, Sophie Devine, Georgia Wareham, Renuka Singh Thakur and Yastika Bhatia were already in place. Prendergast adds seam-bowling all-round cover, and Kamalini brings Indian batting depth.

Mumbai stock up on Indian depth

Mumbai had already used their sixth overseas slot on 12 October, trading for left-arm pacer Tara Norris from UP Warriorz at her ₹10 lakh fee, so Kochi was a domestic shopping trip. MI bought six Indian players for a combined ₹70 lakh. Shweta Sehrawat was the one player to go above base, at ₹20 lakh. They then added five players at ₹10 lakh each: Akshita Bhagat, Bharti Rawal, Disha Kasat, Latika Inamdar and Saanika Chalke.

The CricArcade read

With Harmanpreet Kaur, Nat Sciver-Brunt, Hayley Matthews, Melie Kerr and Shabnim Ismail in the squad, Mumbai had no need to chase big names. They used ₹70 lakh to build a bench around their match-winners. A note for squad trackers: the official WPL register lists Latika Inamdar as a wicketkeeper and Saanika Chalke as a batter, though some secondary sites have swapped the two.

09 / The other side of the auction

Big names who went unsold

Mini-auctions are tough on overseas stars. Only seven overseas players were sold across the five teams, and several well-known names went unsold, including England batter Sophia Dunkley, Sri Lanka captain Chamari Athapaththu and Australian pacer Tayla Vlaeminck. [7]

Going unsold rarely comes down to ability alone. With tight purses and one or two overseas spots left, teams tend to draft for specific role gaps, such as a left-arm spinner or a lower-order finisher, instead of taking the best player available. Not every player on the longlist was necessarily called to the block, either.

The big picture: UP Warriorz reshaped nearly half their squad. Delhi Capitals put most of their budget into Kiran Navgire's power game. RCB added four plug-and-play options around their stars. Gujarat Giants filled their three open spots at base price, and Mumbai Indians loaded up on young Indian talent.

Frequently asked questions

When and where did the WPL 2027 auction take place?

The WPL 2027 player auction took place on Wednesday, 28 October 2026, in Kochi, India. The bidding happened in late 2026, but it is titled the WPL 2027 auction because the squads were built for the 2027 tournament.

Who was the most expensive player at the WPL 2027 auction?

Australian all-rounder Sophie Molineux was the most expensive signing, bought by UP Warriorz for ₹1.10 crore. Kiran Navgire was the highest-priced Indian player, going to Delhi Capitals for ₹75 lakh.

How many players were sold, and how much money was spent?

A total of 25 players were sold (18 Indian and 7 overseas) for a combined ₹6.25 crore. That figure covers auction-day winning bids only. It does not include retained players or pre-auction trades.

How many players are in each final WPL 2027 squad?

Gujarat Giants, Mumbai Indians and UP Warriorz have 18 players each. Delhi Capitals and Royal Challengers Bengaluru have 17 each. All five teams have six overseas players.

What was Jess Jonassen's auction price?

Royal Challengers Bengaluru signed Jess Jonassen for ₹40 lakh. A few third-party squad lists reported ₹30 lakh, but both the official WPL sold register and RCB's own auction report show ₹40 lakh.

Which team is Tara Norris with in 2027?

Tara Norris is with Mumbai Indians. She did not go under the hammer in Kochi: Mumbai acquired her from UP Warriorz in a pre-auction trade on 12 October 2026 at her existing ₹10 lakh fee.

Why did Delhi Capitals and RCB stop at 17 players?

Both finished the auction with ₹5 lakh left in their purses. The lowest winning bid was ₹10 lakh, so neither team could afford an 18th player.

Who is Uma Kashvi?

Uma Kashvi is a 15-year-old Indian all-rounder signed by Delhi Capitals for ₹10 lakh. The official WPL auction overview describes her as the youngest player picked in the league's history.
