WPL 2027 Auction: Date, Players, Purse and Rules Guide
This is a mini auction, not a reset. Retentions closed on 28 September 2026 with 63 players retained, including 23 overseas players. Every team arrives with a core in place, a small purse and a specific shopping list. When five teams want the same player for the same gap, prices jump fast. When nobody needs your role, even a strong name can pass without a bid.
This guide covers the date, venue and timings, the post trade purse and slots picture, every player in the top base price bands, the retained cores, the released stars back in the pool, the big names not in the pool at all, the rules and how to watch. Key details at a glance
| Detail | WPL 2027 auction |
|---|---|
| Type | Mini auction |
| Date | Wednesday, 28 October 2026 |
| Start time | 5:30 PM IST |
| Venue | Grand Hyatt, Kochi |
| Live streaming | JioHotstar |
| Players in pool | 146 |
| Slots available | 27 (20 Indian, 7 overseas) |
| Total purse remaining | ₹8.15 crore |
| Squad size | Maximum 18 per squad |
| Overseas limit | Maximum 6 per squad |
| Season dates | 14 January to 7 February 2027 |
The pool has 119 Indian players (22 capped, 97 uncapped) and 27 overseas players (14 capped, 13 uncapped, 6 from Associate nations). Overseas slots are the scarcest resource. There are only 7 for 27 overseas players, and Mumbai Indians cannot sign an overseas player at all because their quota is already full.
Purse and slots: post trade table
Use the post trade figures below. On 12 October 2026, Tara Norris moved from UP Warriorz to Mumbai Indians in an all cash trade for ₹10 lakh. That move changed both purses and slot counts, so pre trade tables are now out of date for those two teams.
| Team | Held | Overseas held | Purse left | Slots | Overseas slots |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| UP Warriorz | 10 | 3 | ₹3.75 crore | 8 | 3 |
| Gujarat Giants | 15 | 5 | ₹1.25 crore | 3 | 1 |
| Royal Challengers Bengaluru | 13 | 4 | ₹1.15 crore | 5 | 2 |
| Delhi Capitals | 13 | 5 | ₹1.10 crore | 5 | 1 |
| Mumbai Indians | 12 | 6 | ₹90 lakh | 6 | 0 |
| Total | 63 | 23 | ₹8.15 crore | 27 | 7 |
UP Warriorz hold ₹3.75 crore, which is 46 percent of all money left. They also have the most work to do, with 8 slots and only 10 players held. Analysis: that makes them the likely price setters. If they want a player early, they can push bidding beyond what the other teams, each with around ₹1 crore to ₹1.25 crore, can follow and still fill their remaining slots.
Mumbai Indians have ₹90 lakh for 6 slots and no overseas slot, so their auction is about Indian depth and value. Gujarat Giants, with 15 held and only 3 slots, can be selective but cannot win a long bidding war and still shop sensibly. See our WPL 2027 team by team auction preview for needs by team.
Player list by base price
Base price is where bidding starts. It is not a valuation and not a guarantee of a bid.
₹50 lakh: 2 players
- Sophia Dunkley (England, batter)
- Sophie Molineux (Australia, all rounder, Australia captain)
₹40 lakh: 4 players
- G. Kamalini (India, wicketkeeper batter)
- Kiran Navgire (India, batter)
- Heather Graham (Australia, all rounder)
- Jess Jonassen (Australia, all rounder)
₹30 lakh: 30 players
Batters: Raghvi Bist, Tejal Hasabnis, Ayushi Soni.
All rounders: Chamari Athapaththu, Grace Harris, Orla Prendergast, Sneh Rana, Annerie Dercksen, Kayla Reyneke, Chloe Tryon, Simran Bahadur, Mona Meshram, Anjali Sarvani, Meghna Singh.
Wicketkeepers: Taniyaa Bhatia, Uma Chetry, Nuzhat Parween, Sushma Verma.
Bowlers: Mithali Ayodya, Rosemary Mair, Titas Sadhu, Saima Thakor, Tayla Vlaeminck, Saika Ishaque, Priya Mishra, Nonkululeko Mlaba, Asha Sobhana, Preeti Bose, Shuchi Upadhyay, Devika Vaidya.
This band is where most serious bidding below the top bands should happen. Athapaththu, Harris and Prendergast offer overseas top order and all round options. Rana, Bhatia and Sadhu are familiar Indian names back in the pool. Mlaba, Mair and Vlaeminck headline the overseas bowling, with Ishaque, Mishra and Sobhana among the Indian bowlers. Even here, most players will go unsold, because role fit matters more than reputation in a mini auction. We pick out the names most likely to spark bidding wars in WPL 2027 players to watch.
₹20 lakh: 4 players
- Yashasri S
- Tanisha Ohlan
- Yashasvi Katta
- Triveni Vasistha
₹10 lakh: 106 players
The remaining 106 players are at ₹10 lakh, including most of the 97 uncapped Indian players, plus uncapped overseas and Associate players. Notable names here include Shweta Sehrawat, Gongadi Trisha, Charli Knott, Gautami Naik and Vrinda Dinesh, plus Associate players Sarah Bryce (Scotland), Kathryn Bryce (Scotland) and Esha Oza (UAE). Associate players carry extra tactical value because of the playing XI rule explained below, so those names are worth noting even at the lowest band.
Analysis: teams with small purses, especially Mumbai Indians, will need to do most of their work in this band, while UP Warriorz can move early for a ₹10 lakh target if they fear competition.
Retained cores in short
Delhi Capitals (13): Jemimah Rodrigues, Shafali Verma, Laura Wolvaardt, Marizanne Kapp, Annabel Sutherland, Chinelle Henry, Lucy Hamilton, Deeya Yadav, Mamatha Madiwala, Minnu Mani, N. Sree Charani, Nandni Sharma, Niki Prasad.
Gujarat Giants (15): Ashleigh Gardner, Beth Mooney, Sophie Devine, Georgia Wareham, Kim Garth, Anushka Sharma, Bharti Fulmali, Happy Kumari, Jintimani Kalita, Kanika Ahuja, Kashvee Gautam, Rajeshwari Gayakwad, Renuka Singh, Tanuja Kanwer, Yastika Bhatia.
Mumbai Indians (12): Harmanpreet Kaur, Nat Sciver-Brunt, Hayley Matthews, Amelia Kerr, Nicola Carey, Shabnim Ismail, Amanjot Kaur, Rahila Firdous, Sajeevan Sajana, Sanskriti Gupta, Vaishnavi Sharma, plus Tara Norris, traded in. Their 6 overseas places are full.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru (13): Smriti Mandhana, Richa Ghosh, Ellyse Perry, Georgia Voll, Nadine de Klerk, Lauren Bell, Shreyanka Patil, Radha Yadav, Arundhati Reddy, Pooja Vastrakar, Prema Rawat, Sayali Satghare, Prathyoosha Kumar.
UP Warriorz (10): Deepti Sharma, Meg Lanning, Phoebe Litchfield, Sophie Ecclestone, Harleen Deol, Kranti Gaud, Pratika Rawal, Shikha Pandey, Shipra Giri, Simran Shaikh. A high quality core, but the thinnest in numbers.
Captains as of the 2026 season were Mandhana (RCB), Harmanpreet Kaur (MI), Rodrigues (DC), Gardner (GG) and Lanning (UPW).
Released stars back in the pool
Several released names are available again, to any team, at a new price. Look for G. Kamalini, released by Mumbai Indians, and Kiran Navgire, released by UP Warriorz, both at ₹40 lakh. At ₹30 lakh are Grace Harris (released by RCB), Sneh Rana and Taniyaa Bhatia (both DC), Titas Sadhu (GG), Saika Ishaque (MI), Asha Sobhana (UPW), Ayushi Soni (GG) and Chloe Tryon (UPW). At ₹10 lakh are Shweta Sehrawat, Gongadi Trisha and Charli Knott (all UPW) and Gautami Naik (RCB), with Triveni Vasistha at ₹20 lakh after release by MI.
Analysis: a release is often about purse and slots, not form alone. Do not read it as a final judgement on a player.
Notable absentees
Three released stars have not registered and cannot be bought in Kochi:
- Deandra Dottin (UP Warriorz)
- Alana King (Delhi Capitals)
- Lizelle Lee (Delhi Capitals)
Lee is the biggest surprise. She was Delhi Capitals top scorer in 2026, yet she is not in the 146 player pool. Dottin and King are proven overseas match winners who will also be missing. Their absence thins the overseas pool and puts more pressure on the Dunkley, Molineux, Graham and Jonassen end of the market.
Auction rules in brief
The full explainer is in how the WPL auction works. The rules that matter for 2027 are these. Each team has a total purse of ₹15 crore. Squads can hold a maximum of 18 players, with a maximum of 6 overseas players. In the playing XI, a team can field a maximum of 4 overseas players, with a 5th allowed if she is from an Associate nation. That rule lifts the value of Associate players such as Norris at MI and the Bryce sisters and Esha Oza in this pool.
This is a mini auction, so there is no Right to Match storyline this year. RTM belonged to the mega auction cycle. Teams must win a player outright in the bidding. Players sell to the highest bidder at or above base price.
The squads are being built for a double round robin league, each team playing 8 league matches for 20 league matches in total. The table topper goes straight to the final, while 2nd and 3rd meet in the Eliminator. For the season ahead see the WPL 2027 season guide, and for the story so far see WPL history, winners and records, covering all four finals, Delhi Capitals losing all four, and Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bengaluru winning two titles each.
How to watch
The auction starts at 5:30 PM IST on Wednesday, 28 October 2026 at the Grand Hyatt, Kochi. Live streaming is on JioHotstar. Mini auctions move quickly. With only 27 slots, key signings can happen in short bursts between runs of unsold players, and the early ₹40 lakh to ₹50 lakh bands will set the tone for the purses that remain.
Keep the purse table open while you watch. Every bid changes what a team can still do.
