T20 World Cup: Fitness and Rotation, Vice-Captains, Squads That Change Between Series

Two of a team's series could run over each other, which locked the squad screen and sent you back and forth between opponents. That is fixed, and every side's players now tire and recover, so rotating a bowler is a real decision, for you and for the AI.

FIXED

New Zealand v India no longer overlaps New Zealand's next series (and no team is ever in two series at once), so you play one series to the end before the next starts. Careers already in progress have their unstarted series moved apart when you load them.

FIXED

You can always pick a new squad when a new series starts. The squad screen only locks in the middle of the series that squad was picked for.

FIXED

The vice-captain you pick on the captaincy screen is now kept, shown as VC on the squad page, and leads the side whenever the captain is rested. Resting your captain for a match no longer takes the captaincy away from him.

NEW

Fitness: every match takes something out of your players, fast bowlers most, keepers a little, batters least, and days off bring it back. Below 80 a player plays a point or more below his rating. Fitness shows beside each name when you pick the XI and in a FIT column on the squad page. A quick who bowls every game of a series starts the third one tired; a World Cup run without rotation leaves your main bowlers tired for the knockouts.

NEW

The other teams tire too, and their selectors rotate: a tired regular usually plays on, a weary or spent one is rested for the next best, and in a knockout only a spent player sits out. They also read the pitch, bringing in a second spinner on a turner, an extra quick on a seamer's deck and more batting on a road. Auto-pick on your XI screen picks the same way. Other teams' fitness shows in the FIT column of their squad page.

BETTER

Development is easier to follow: DRIFT now shows the exact change to one decimal, so small moves no longer round away to 0, and a new TREND column shows where each player's rating is heading this season from his form so far. The change itself still lands once a year, at the end of each season.

BETTER

Development now counts not-outs, boundaries and fifties, so a finisher with a high average is no longer judged as if he was out every innings, and the qualifier and World Cup count towards the next season's development.

FIXED

In the Olympics, Asian Games and regional cups, a team no longer plays two matches on the same day.
