HOW THE MATCH UNFOLDED

India won the toss and chose to bat. It was Chris Rogers's first Test.

India batted first and made 330 all out. Rahul Dravid top-scored with 93 off 183 balls, and Sachin Tendulkar made 71. Mitchell Johnson took 4 for 86 for Australia. The innings was built on a 139-run stand for the third wicket between Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid, 42% of the total.

Australia replied with 212 all out. Andrew Symonds top-scored with 66 off 70 balls, and Adam Gilchrist made 55. RP Singh took 4 for 68 for India. The innings was built on a 102-run stand for the sixth wicket between Adam Gilchrist and Andrew Symonds, 48% of the total. India led by 118 on first innings.

India made 294 all out in their second innings. VVS Laxman top-scored with 79 off 156 balls, and Irfan Pathan made 46. Stuart Clark took 4 for 61 for Australia.
